He regularly comments on international matches for the German national team and ski jumping on ARD. Now Tom Bartels has criticized himself.
ARD sports reporter Tom Bartels self-critically assessed his own work on the microphone. “Unfortunately, I also talk too much. I definitely talk too much,” said the 58-year-old in the podcast “Spielmacher – The EM Talk with Sebastian Hellmann and 360Media”. Bartels is known as a commentator on ARD television at international matches for the German national soccer team. Among other things, he was at the microphone at the 2014 World Cup final, when Germany became world champions. He is also regularly involved in ski jumping.
Criticism also comes from his family. Bartels said in an interview with Sky presenter Sebastian Hellmann that he recently commented on ski jumping again, “and my wife said that she actually liked everything about it, but I talked way too much.” Then the day after he “felt like he spoke half of it for me”.
“That’s counterproductive”
Especially when the football season starts in August or the ski jumping season starts in winter, it happens to him even more that he talks too much. “Maybe because then the thought comes that you have to show everyone again that you are really into the topic,” he explained.
“But that’s counterproductive.” Bartels said he gets annoyed with colleagues when people talk constantly. But he knows how difficult it is. “I actually have to force myself to talk less in everything I do.”
