Today, our country may switch to code yellow, but what exactly does that mean? † Coronavirus what you need to know

Today the Consultation Committee will meet again to consider the corona situation in our country. There are a lot of relaxation on the table, which may open the door to the ‘Empire of Freedom’ again. The corona figures in Belgium are looking quite good at the moment, which means that we will most likely switch from code orange to code yellow on the corona barometer. But what exactly does code yellow mean? An overview.

Read everything about the coronavirus in this file.

Code yellow on the corona barometer indicates that the epidemiological situation and the pressure on hospitals in our country are under control.

To switch to code yellow, daily less than 65 hospital admissions to be. In addition, no more than 300 corona patients in intensive care lying down. Those conditions have not yet been fully met. Although fewer than 300 intensive care beds have already been taken, we still had an average of 134 hospitalizations per day in the past seven days.

Moreover, once we move to code yellow, there is no longer a state of emergency.

However, extra attention remains good ventilation necessary. There is no longer any limitation on the capacity of the activities. In the case of youth camps, there is also no restriction on the number of overnight stays.

In all scenarios mentioned, wearing a mouth mask is still recommended for people who medically vulnerable to be. Also on the public transport It may still be mandatory to wear a mouth mask. Minister of the Interior Annelies Verlinden (CD&V) said that the transport companies – NMBS and De Lijn – could decide whether the obligation continues to apply. It is also not yet clear whether wearing a mouth mask in shops and supermarkets will remain mandatory. In schools, the mouth mask obligation will probably be canceled.
