The story of transgender people Asta and Frederikke is followed in a Danish documentary series.

In Danish By itself – documentary series follows an 18-year-old Frederikke and 5 years old Step up. The two are united by the fact that both are defined as a boy at birth, but perceive themselves as a girl.
In the second episode of the series, which can be seen today, Asta’s parents apply for an official name change for their child. The purpose is to get the name change approved before Asta starts school.

In the episode, the parents take Asta to the Pride parade in Copenhagen to meet other representatives of gender minorities. The mother hopes that the girl will find support groups in the community as she grows up.
– Asta also gets to see that he is not the only one, there are others who feel the same way, Asta’s father Bo explain.
– If Asta is transgender even as an adult, it is important that he knows from childhood that we parents support him. No matter what happens, we are always by his side and try to understand him as best we can, says Line.
Frederikke, on the other hand, is happy that she has been accepted for hormone therapy. However, you have to wait another five months for the treatments to start, which frustrates Frederikke. A young woman struggles with her unfamiliar body.
– It affects my everyday life. With the help of hormones, I get feminine features. I look forward to it.
Finally, the long-awaited day arrives. The health risks of hormone treatments make me think, but Frederikke is sure of her decision.
