Some are enthusiastic about them, others just annoyed, again others try to ignore them completely: chart hits. Nevertheless, you can always read well on these particularly successful songs, which often become a catchy tune, what the respective year stood for or what aesthetics was the order of the year. We have put together ten songs that determined the German single charts in 2015.
To list, we used the sales figures for the German charts over 2015. The source for this was the “Official Charts” page of the charter investigator GfK Entertainment. You can see that it is not always crucial for the success of a song whether the song was in 1st place for a long time. It was more of the longevity of some titles that were decisive for the high ranking in the following list, which we present in ascending order.
10th place: Kygo feat. Conrad Sewell – “Firestone”
The song of the Norwegian DJs Kygo, for which he brought the British-Australian singer Conrad Sewell on board, combines many ingredients of the successful Electro pop of the 10s: Langes, emotional build-up, then the redeeming hands-on managers with a Mitsing part à la “We Light up the World”, before the most important comes: Party synth hook that gives the song the necessary club qualifications. Chart maximum position of “Firestone” was only the third place, on which the track then only stayed for a week. But the title was successful in the long term and held a proud 57 weeks – and therefore more than a year (!) – in the charts.
It was the song for the sad final of the Auto Action Film “Furious 7”: US rapper Wiz Khalifa not only grabbed a good pack of emotion for his pop ballad, but also the singer Charlie Puth on the track. Chart result of this ballad for tuning fans: 4 weeks in number 1 on the German charts. The track was able to stay in the top 100 for a total of 53 weeks.
8th place: Robin Schulz feat. Francesco Yates – “Sugar”
With his cover of the 2003 hit “Suga Suga” by Baby Bash, the Lower Saxony Robin Schulz has proven huge hit. And that was also rewarded: his electro-pop chillwave hit, on which he had the Canadian singer Francesco Yates participated, remained in the charts for a total of 55 weeks, even in 1st place for three weeks.
7th place: Adele – “Hello”
The opener of Adeles Megaseller album “25” was comparatively short in the charts compared to the other songs in this list. “Hello” remained in the top 100 for just 33 weeks.
But a third of the time, namely proud 11 (!) Weeks, was the song in 1st place on the charts, including even until the following year in 2016. It was only on January 15, 2016 that “Hello” lost the place in the sun to the deep end remix of Matt Simons’ “Catch & Release”.
