World Cup leader Julia Taubitz won the silver medal at the World Luge Championships in Altenberg, Saxony.
After two runs, the 27-year-old was 0.104 seconds behind the new world champion Lisa Schulte from Austria. Taubitz won gold in the sprint race at the start of the World Cup on Friday, but now she narrowly missed out on her second title in the classic discipline after 2021. Bronze went to Schulte’s compatriot Madeleine Egle (+0.175).
Merle Fräbel achieved another good result from a German perspective with fifth place, Melina Fabienne Fischer improved significantly in the second round and finished the race in 12th place.
Defending champion Anna Berreiter had a disastrous day.
The 24-year-old was just able to avoid a fall, but in the end she only ended up in 24th place and even missed qualifying for the final round.
