Olympic champion Felix Loch is far from thinking about retiring: his big goal is the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“It’s just fun for me. It’s just my job, my job, my dream, I just live it,” said the 33-year-old on the talk show. And further: “I have no idea how long I’ll go down there, but four years in any case.”
The games in Italy are only three or three and a half hours away from Königssee. “It would be cool if that worked. It’s definitely the big goal, that’s where we’re going.” With three Olympic victories, 13 world championship titles and seven overall World Cup victories, Loch is one of the most successful lugers in the nation. He won everything.
National coach not an option for the future
The relation to his Father, who is also the national luge coach and has a contract until 2026, he now looks calm. “For many, many years it’s been quite normal for me that dad is there. There haven’t been that many points where he’s been able to criticize me a lot.” It was never the case that it was said “the hole is only there because the father is the national coach.” Incidentally, inheriting Papa Norbert is out of the question for Felix: “It’s a lot of an office job, I can’t sit at a desk.”
Destroyed toboggan run at Königssee: “Huge effort”
As for the bobsleigh and toboggan run at Königssee, which was destroyed by a landslide a year and a half ago, Felix Loch is skeptical. He hopes that it will be possible to drive there again “as soon as possible”, “but it will probably take a few more years”. The failure not only affects him and the professionals, but above all the children: “I can see that the youngsters are unfortunately going to waste. Because you can’t keep the children on board for so long. It’s a huge effort from them junior coaches to keep the kids engaged.”
