To activate the SIM or change telephone operator you will use the Spid

GTelephone operators will have to organize themselves because from today to activate a new number or change telephone operator you will no longer have to go to the store, but just use the Spid. The AGCOM decided at the meeting at the end of September when he gave the green light to the simplification of SIM activation or change procedures and for number portability. A real advantage for everyone, from operators to shopkeepers who activate contracts, to end users given that this simplification will greatly reduce bureaucratic steps and at the same time it will increase security, against the risk of fraud.

It was conceivable, although not obvious, that at a certain point the Commission for Infrastructures and Networks of the Communications Regulatory Authority would decide to make use of the SPIDthe Public Digital Identity System, the THERE ISElectronic Identity Card or the CNSthe National Service Charter.

End of bureaucratic red tape

Customers they will be able to avoid the bureaucratic process that was necessary until yesterday. From the photocopy of the identity document and tax code to be presented in paper form at the operators’ shops or to be uploaded in digital formats if online services are used. In the next step, when the chosen operator must confirm the user’s identity and can only do so via the postman, who once the SIM is delivered asks to see the user’s document. Unless you use a video call where you will have to show an operator that the photo matches the face of the identity document used. An obstacle course that from today is no longer necessary to undertake.

Activate the SIM from home

So, Spid is welcome if it helps to do all this from home. Naturally, as AGCOM explains, telephone operators will be required to update the current Framework Agreement for the application of anti-fraud rules with the new digital recognition tools which complicated the procedure quite a bit. But Spid or CIE are much more certain and secure identification methods than the use of a physical document. Now that the green light has been given, all that remains is to wait to see which operators will adopt this new method first.
