TM database: All of Hungary’s international matches – coach Matthäus & Storck

…better and better!

Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All 962 games of the national team of Hungary are now available in our database. The top scorer in Magyar history is former star player Ferenc Puskás, who scored 83 goals in 84 games. Died in 2006, the former striker is still known today, among other things, from the “Miracle of Bern”, when the then captain scored the early opening goal for the highly favored Hungary in Germany’s 3-2 triumph in 1954.

Meanwhile, two players share the place as the record player. Both midfielder Balázs Dzsudzsák and the former Hertha goalkeeper have each made 108 appearances. In addition to Dzsudzsák, there is another active professional in the top 10 with ex-Mainzer Ádám Szalai (84 games).

The Hungarians have twice relied on German national coaches in their football history. From 2003 to 2005, Lothar Matthäus stood on the touchline in 28 games in which he scored an average of 1.29 points. Bernd Storck with assistant coach Andreas Möller oversaw the selection from 2015 to 2017 in 25 games (average 1.24 points). Before the 1954 World Cup, Hungary had already made it to the final of the finals in 1938, and their best result at a European Championship was third place in 1964.
