Another milestone has been added to the transfer market statistics. All games of the national team of Slovakia are now available in our database. There is no way around captain Marek Hamsik, who has made 135 appearances and scored 26 goals so far, both in the ranking of the record players and the top scorers.
Behind the 34-year-old from the Turkish champions Trabzonspor, there are some active and former professionals from the Bundesliga in both rankings. The top 10 players with the most appearances include Peter Pekarik (Hertha BSC, formerly VfL Wolfsburg), Miroslav Karhan (formerly VfL Wolfsburg), Jan Durica (formerly Hannover 96), Robert Vittek (formerly 1. FC Nürnberg) and Robert Mak (formerly 1. FC Nürnberg).
In addition to the already mentioned Vittek, Mak and Karhan, the top ten scorers also include Szilard Nemeth (formerly Alemannia Aachen), Marek Mintal (formerly 1. FC Nürnberg) – current assistant coach of Slovakia –, Adam Nemec (formerly 1. FC Kaiserslautern ), Stanislav Sestak (formerly VfL Bochum) and Ondrej Duda (1. FC Köln, formerly Hertha BSC).
Slovakia’s biggest success so far was their participation in the 2010 World Cup, when they reached the round of 16. In addition, Slovakia qualified twice for the European Championship. While 2021 was already over after the preliminary round, five years earlier they fought their way into the round of 16, where Germany emerged victorious in the end.
