Trainer Jorrit Smink of The Knickerbockers was clear about his state of mind after the game against Sporting’70 in Utrecht: ,,Very sad”. The reason was crystal clear. TKB lost a 2-0 lead and conceded extremely clumsy and questionable goals. It was 4-2 for Sporting’70.
Stella Keun made her debut at TKB. She came over from the promises of Heerenveen, played football for Helpman before and in that capacity regularly played in Dutch youth teams, including in the U17. Keun was only able to play 45 minutes due to a training delay. That went well. Tjitske Heeres made it 0-1 after a pass from Robin Huijboom and Hannah van der Weide scored the second from a distance.
After the break, the game was very unfortunate for TKB. Smink: ,,The 1-2 and the 2-2 of Sporting’70 were both direction changes. Then the opponent got a penalty kick, but Daphne Velthuis, who had replaced Keun at half time, didn’t even hit her opponent. Nikki Mijdendorp, a strong goalkeeper, was close.”
The drama for the well-playing Velthuis was not over yet, because when an opponent fell through her hooves out of fatigue, Daphne, who walked next to it, just got her second yellow and therefore red card. TKB started again with ten women, but the Utrecht team struck in the counter: 4-2. TKB will be free next week, because it has been eliminated in the cup and trainer Smink hopes that Frederique Versteeg will be fit again and can join.
