Peter Gabriel has it with the moon: The 73-year-old musician has released the title track of his forthcoming album “i/o” to coincide with the full moon on April 6th. The song also features the Soweto Gospel Choir. This was previously heard on the song “Down To Earth” (“Wall-E”). The Briton has already performed with the musicians represented in it at events for Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

Peter Gabriel: “We are messed up but connected individuals”

As Gabriel writes on Twitter, “i/o” in English stands for “input/output,” something that’s often written on the back of a lot of electrical equipment. Gabriel’s thoughts on the title of his upcoming work: “It gave me some ideas about what we take in and what we put out – both physically and non-physically.”

This was the starting point and ultimately the attempt to talk about “the interweaving of all things”: “I probably don’t get any smarter as I get older, but I’ve learned a few things and it makes sense to me that we shouldn’t have these little independent things Islands are, as we like to think, but part of a whole. If we see ourselves as somehow screwed up but connected individuals, as part of a larger whole, then maybe something can be learned from that?”

Like the previous Full Moon releases, “i/o” comes with different mixes: the now released “Bright Side Mix” by Mark “Spike” Stent as well as Tchad Blake’s “Dark Side Mix” and Hans-Martin Buff’s “Atmos Mix”, which will appear later in April.
