With his sights firmly on the title: Three-time champion Michael van Gerwen has reached the final of the Darts World Cup in London and continues to dream of his fourth triumph at the Ally Pally.
The Dutchman beat Englishman Chris Dobey 6-1 and reached the final for the seventh time.
“I can be satisfied with the performance. I’m here with a mission, with a goal,” said Michael van Gerwen on “Sky Sports” after the match. But the title is still “a long way away. You have to keep telling yourself that.” In the final, the 35-year-old will face child prodigy Luke Littler.
Van Gerwen celebrated his last World Cup title in 2019 and lost to the Englishman Michael Smith in the 2023 final.
Now the Dutchman wants to crown his strong tournament and secure prize money of 500,000 pounds (approx. 581,000 euros).
With a three-dart average of 98.84 points and a doubles rate of almost 43 percent, the Dutchman dominated the game confidently and gave the weak Dobey no chance.
“You have to make sure you keep your own fire. I won’t underestimate him,” van Gerwen said before the duel with Dobey. The current number three in the world started the game with corresponding energy. He secured the first set without any problems, and in the second he benefited from three missed set darts from his opponent.

Dobey found his way into the game only briefly, but impressively: with the highest possible finish of 170 points and another finish of 108 points, he shortened the score to 1:2 and ignited the atmospheric Ally Pally.
But van Gerwen quickly took control again and didn’t give up another sentence. With his third match dart he made his entry into the final perfect.
