Justus Strelow is rested in the World Cup singles by Oberhof. Philipp Nawrath gets a chance at the biathlon home game in Thuringia.

As announced by the German Ski Association, the 30-year-old Nawrath is in the five-man squad for the 20-kilometer race on Tuesday (2:30 p.m.). Justus Strelow is pausing for this. The 26-year-old from Saxony had already competed in the sprint and pursuit at the Rennsteig. Strelow finished twelfth and eleventh at the weekend.

“Break is good for him”

“The background is clearly not that Justus did it badly, he has two great races, but we still have one or two plans for Justus in the remaining competitions, and accordingly we think that a break would do him good.”said DSV sports director Felix Bitterling.

Olympic participant Nawrath, who was accepted despite the lack of a World Championship standard “Leave a great impression in training” and deserves his chance. “We think it’s fair that he gets a call in the form he’s in now.”said Bitterling.

Men still without a medal

The German squad for the start of the second week of the World Cup is led by the disappointing sprint world champion Benedikt Doll. In addition to Nawrath, Johannes Kühn, David Zobel and Roman Rees are also there.

The men are still without a medal in Oberhof, Denise Herrmann-Wick has already won gold and silver for the women. For the Olympic champion, it’s only on Wednesday that it’s about victory again in singles.
