It seems to be an almost impossible task for Den Helder Suns to become national champion. The basketball players lost the second game in the battle for the championship against Grasshoppers from Katwijk on Tuesday evening: 56-70.
The game was pretty even between the two basketball clubs. At Den Helder Suns, Amber Lewakabessy was missing, who had sustained an injury in the first game. Suns had to chase early, as it trailed 10-16 pretty quickly. Then it came back nicely within the first quarter to 16-18. In the second quarter, Bennes’ team managed to turn the game around to 29-27.
So it seemed to go in the right direction, but in the third quarter, the points at Suns were not so easy anymore. The deficit increased to fifteen points and the damage was even greater in the last part of the game. The tally stopped at 56-70 leaving Grasshoppers just one win away from the championship.
Coming Saturday, Grasshoppers can become champion with a win over Den Helder. The North Holland team would have to win all three remaining games to claim the title.
