Tip! Zoetermeer has a ‘flower station’ where you can get free flower seeds

Especially for National Climate Week, car sharing company Greenwheels is placing it in various Dutch cities.flower stations‘. A flower station is a wooden house filled with bags of flower seeds that you can use to brighten up your garden, the roadside or a flower bed. And yes, they come to Zoetermeer too!

The organization wants everyone to sow seeds so that as many gardens, tree beds and roadsides as possible are in bloom in the spring. Another nice thing about this promotion: you can take the flower seeds with you for free!

National Climate Week

You find one flower station in our city during National Climate Week, from October 30 to November 5. “Everyone can make a positive contribution to keeping our planet livable,” says Michiel Cuppen of Greenwheels. “At home, at work, but also in the neighborhood.”

Greenwheels places no fewer than five hundred in the National Climate Week flower stations throughout the Netherlands. The green houses can be found at various permanent Greenwheels car locations and contain bags of flower seeds that can be sown directly. In Zoetermeer you will find a station at four locations, namely Spartastraat, Ruimtebaan, Sartrezijde and Acaciazoom 85. All locations in the Netherlands can be found on the Greenwheels website.

Tips for sowing

Want to score free flower seeds? Top! Here are some useful sowing tips:

  • Sun: seeds thrive in sunlight, so provide a sunny spot
  • Water: is it very dry? Then water the seeds occasionally, that will make them happy
  • Respect nature: Do you not have a garden yourself and would you like to make a part of the neighborhood greener? Nice! Be careful if you go further away, sowing in nature reserves is not the intention, because this disrupts the natural balance
  • Get rid of that tile: no piece of free earth? Remove a tile from your garden. This is better for water drainage, biodiversity and the appearance of the neighborhood. Before sowing, remove the sand and provide good garden soil
  • Under the earth: ensure that the seeds sink a little into the soil, if necessary, loosen the soil to achieve this. But be careful never to completely cover the seeds with soil, because then sunlight can no longer reach them
  • Whoever keeps what has what: the seeds can be sown in October so that they will emerge in the spring. Sowing in the spring, around March, is also possible.
