Due to track work in the Schiphol tunnels, train passengers to and from the airport must take an adjusted timetable into account this weekend. And that’s just a taste, because fewer trains also run between mid-January and the first week of February.
The work is part of a monster job for ProRail, where the tunnels and installations will be thoroughly renovated until 2028. For example, the tracks, sleepers and overhead lines will be replaced. This means that some tracks are sometimes inaccessible and fewer trains can use the station.
The work means that travelers must take into account extra travel time, have to transfer more often or that their train departs from a different platform than usual. The NS recommends checking the current departure time in the app just before departure.
The restrictions this weekend will apply from 4am on Saturday morning until 2am on Monday morning. The NS expects that it will take you fifteen minutes longer to get to Schiphol. On the night from Saturday to Sunday, NS operates shuttle buses between Amsterdam Central Station and Schiphol.
Long-term nuisance
The disruption is not over yet, because from next Saturday, January 13 to February 4, a number of tracks will be out of use again. Even then there are fewer trains running. During the weekends of January 20 and February 3, no trains will run between Schiphol and Amsterdam-Sloterdijk. This applies from Saturday morning 4:00 am to Monday morning 2:00 am.
