Un “timeless calendar”: this is the focus of the new mythical Pirelli Calendar 2024 presented yesterday 30 November in London. Taking the iconic shots of the calendar this year is a young Ghanaian artist called Prince Gyasi who, through the strong and bright colors that distinguish his style, he wanted to talk about his culture, his land and black pride.
The 2024 Pirelli Calendar
In “Timeless”, title of the work, in fact, the calendar surpasses its original function of keeping track of the passing of days and months to become a true manifesto of Africa. And to do so, Gyasi calls into question black icons such as Naomi Campbell, Angela Bassett and even the king of the Ashanti, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. But not only that: the poetess is filmed on the steps of a pink staircase Amanda Gorman and while carrying a blue suitcase is the shot of the actor and Idris Elba.
Timeless protagonists
A Calendar that is full of details and messages. Gyasi, in fact, in all his photos refers to his roots, to his community, to his inspirations. But he also says, in the introduction of the project the objective, that some of the talents included in the Calendar are both figures he has admired since he was a child and new inspirations. People he defines as “timeless”. because they don’t follow what society thinks, they don’t let themselves be influenced by age, fame, money, but develop their talents in an authentic way.
The key words that explain the new Pirelli Calendar
Gyasi associated each protagonist photographed a symbolic color and a key word, principles and virtues that can inspire anyone: Naomi Campbell is the time stopper, the one who stopped the flow of time. Actor Idris Elba is the man of honorthe supermodel Tiwa Savage instead is resilience and, again, the writer Margot Lee Shetterly and the young poet Amanda Gorman are model.

«I realized that what makes these characters who they are isn’t being young or old. But it is their focus, their dedication, their passion. They never stop. They never give up” he writes and adds “In the end, this project isn’t about my or your path, it’s about theirs that I’m talking about, about my community, about young people. This project represents an opportunity for other kids like me to see these images and be inspired to become the best version of yourself».
