2012. European Football Championship. Musically accompanied by the Toten Hosen. Wishing for eternity, Campino sang “Days Like These” from almost every street speaker while the crowds of fans roared at the public viewing. In the same year, the rapper Danger Dan from the Antilopen Gang, whose mention made most people think of exotic animals rather than a rap crew, released his second solo EP DINKELBROT UND ÖLSARDINEN, on which he struck a tone that hardly resembled football euphoria the German fit. Too thoughtful, too deep for a carefree soccer summer. Despite this, the EP, released as a free download as well as on CD, found an audience.

Ten years later, given the pandemic and war, such a summer of football seems far away. On the other hand, Danger Dan’s early musical work seems much more appropriate for our time. How good that it has now been reissued as an anniversary vinyl.

Newly mixed: “SPELLED BREAD AND SARDINES IN OIL” sounds better than ever

Unlike the original CD from 2012, which quickly sold out, the vinyl version wasn’t burned and printed by label mate Panik Panzer this time, but it still has a certain collector’s value. The entire EP was remixed and remastered by producer Roe Beardie, so according to the antelopes it sounds “better than ever”.

If you want to be convinced of this, you can buy the vinyl in the Shop the Antilopen Gang for 17 euros. And for those who would rather have a visual impression of 2012 far away from any (soccer) euphoria, the music video for the track “Oil Sardine Industry”, which has now become a classic, is still available on YouTube and features Danger Dan in a yellow trench coat cloudy weather stomps, recommended.

The Antelope Gang itself last released ANTELOPE MONEY LAUNDERING SAMPLER 1 on Christmas Eve last year. Before that, Danger Dan had caused a sensation with his piano album DAS IST ALL BY DER KUNSTFREIHEIT GECKT and climbed to number one in the album charts. Could he have imagined that in 2012?
