Tim van Rijthoven through to third round Wimbledon

Tim van Rijthoven has qualified for the third round of Wimbledon grand slam tournament on Wednesday evening. He defeated American Reilly Opelka in four sets 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 and 7-6.

Van Rijthoven, the number 104 in the world, qualified for Wimbledon with a wild card after he had won the ATP tournament in Rosmalen at the beginning of June. According to the ANP news agency, the 25-year-old tennis player is the first Dutchman to reach the third round at Wimbledon since 2013. Then Igor Sijsling, the current coach of Van Rijthoven, managed to win two matches in London.

Tallon Valentijn failed to reach the third round of Wimbledon on Wednesday. The Dutchman lost in three sets (6-4, 7-7-, 6-3) to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. Botic van de Zandschulp will still play in the second round on Thursday afternoon. He has to compete against Emíl Ruusuvuori from Finland.
