Rijk and Sam Hofman, Tim Hofman’s brothers, continue to swear about cancer in their podcast despite outside criticism. “We think the word sounds very nice.”

It annoys many people that Rijk and Sam Hofman use ‘cancer’ dozens of times in every episode of their podcast Broers. It is particularly painful because their brother Tim Hofman presents a television program about people suffering from incurable diseases such as cancer, namely Over My Corpse. “They swear non-stop!”

No charge

Rijk and Sam have taken note of the massive criticism of their swearing, but have no intention of doing anything about it. They also do not regret wishing Dries Roelvink death. Sam: “I often say it automatically: ‘He really has to die.’ That no longer has the connotation of real death. That’s just like us cursing cancer.”

According to Rijk, the swearing about cancer is not meant in a bad way at all. “That doesn’t sound like cancer to us either,” he explains in the latest episode of the Brotherspodcast.

Nice word

Sam agrees with Rijk’s explanation. “No, it doesn’t have that load.”

Rijk emphasizes that they will simply continue to curse at cancer. “We just really like the word.”

Sam argues that older people just don’t understand. “Boomers don’t understand this.”

The two also swear extensively about cancer in the latest episode of their podcast. “Yes, cancer. That’s just like André Hazes’ ex,” he says, for example. Or they talk about an item that is ‘cancer expensive’.

‘Dries is dead’

A little later, Rijk asks his brother: “Do you have any news?”

Sam then: “Dries Roelvink is single. Is dead!”

Rich has to laugh about it. “No, no, look Sam, you can’t say that now after last week, because now it becomes a threat. No, Dries was indeed in the news with you, because of you. That’s cool too. Dries Roelvink was in the news again, which of course he thinks is fantastic, because of you. Actually he should thank you, hahaha.”
