extension at the club
Even before the end of the current season, 1. FC Nürnberg are looking at the squad for the next season, and it’s starting to take shape. Tim Handwerker will also stay with the club. On Wednesday, the middle Franconians announced the extension with the 23-year-old left-back, although the talks about the previously expiring contract, according to Sport Director Dieter Hecking, “have been a little longer for understandable reasons”. The working paper is now again valid for the long term. The FCN did not announce the exact term.
Hecking emphasized Handwerker’s performance curve, which “like the rest of the team has shown steadily upwards in recent months”. “He is an important and integral part of our team.”
Handwerker, who switched from 1. FC Köln to Pegnitz in 2019, also addressed the somewhat longer decision-making process. He said in a club statement: “It’s been three intense years that I’ve spent at the club now. And, of course, I’ve been thinking hard about my future. I also asked myself what is right for me. In the end I always got back to what I have at the club. That’s a lot of good. The team, the coaching team, the sports management and the fans. But also the great people at the office. That’s why I signed the contract with full conviction.”
