Tim den Besten does not mind at all that he was fired from Shownieuws at the beginning of his TV career. It was really terrible to work there, he says. “They are so slippery!”
Before Tim den Besten became a well-known Dutchman, he worked behind the scenes. He was also editor of Shownieuws for a month. “I was hired at Shownieuws, but then I was fired after a month. I was fired because I was arrogant and uninterested,” he says in the guest lecture Featured†
“It was slippery!”
Tim was actually quite happy with that resignation. “First of all, I am proud that you then work at Shownieuws, SBS Shownieuws, and are fired for that reason. I thought, well, maybe it’s for the best. It was actually a kind of compliment.”
They are all terrible types running around there, Tim thinks. “I was totally out of place. I couldn’t be with those people. It was slippery.”
Not a nice place
Show news is not a nice place to work, according to Tim. “I do not know; if you are surrounded by nice people or a nice place and you feel good, then you are not so concerned with who you are, how you are or how you relate to the other person, but then you just are. And there I was in a kind of cramp the whole time, because I didn’t feel comfortable.”
Why was Tim fired anyway? “For example, I also started adjusting Patty Brard’s presentation texts, because I thought they didn’t flow well and because the sentences weren’t right, I thought, because she could also say it a bit better. But that was not my job at all.”
‘Adapted by Tim’
Tim decided on his own to turn things around. “So in the editorial system they saw: ‘Edited by Tim, edited by Tim.’ But is that Tim’s job? No! Of course you can explain that as a kind of arrogant that you as a 20-year-old snot will do things that you were not asked to do at all.”
“I thought: I just don’t like the program that much, we have to make it a bit better. Arrogant… Yes, okay, now I see it too.”
