The subject of many rumors and predictions for a few years, Apple’s augmented reality headset has so far never been officially mentioned by the Cupertino giant. And if we suspect an upcoming announcement (which some people wrongly predicted during the last WWDC), Apple has so far remained very discreet. It is therefore with some surprise that we learn this week of CNBC that Tim Cook, emblematic CEO of the brand, has himself given indications which tend to confirm the existence of such a product.
In an interview with China Daily USA, Tim Cook indicated that AR was a central subject for Apple, and clearly hinted that important innovations were to come in this field in the group’s offer.

If these statements may seem tenuous, it is quite simply the first time that Tim Cook has so clearly implied that Apple has more to offer than the AR applications available for a few years now on iPhone and iPad. To compete with Meta and its “Metaverse”, but also with Microsoft and its augmented reality headset HoloLens (available since 2016), Apple will clearly have to go further. As it stands, Apple’s (still marginal) experiments in augmented reality have above all enabled the brand to set up an entire ecosystem of development tools which will be invaluable to it if an AR headset marked with an apple sees the light of day.
And according to Bloomberg, the thing could materialize soon. The American media reported a few weeks ago that a first version of this new product would have been presented to the board of directors of Apple. Sign that something seems to be in preparation for the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.
