Tilburger threatens Mark Rutte with death and has to go to jail

A 52-year-old Tilburger has to go to jail for more than forty days because he threatened Prime Minister Mark Rutte. This was decided by the magistrate on Tuesday. The man sent an email to Rutte in April 2021 saying he would cut his neck.

In the mail he called Rutte ‘the prime minister of Naziland’ and threatened that he would drive to Rutte to cut his neck. He sent the threatening email in corona time.

The magistrate sentenced the man to 46 days in prison. There are still a few days after the man has been in custody, which can be a maximum of three days.

If he makes another mistake in the next two years, he will have to spend another two weeks in jail.

Many more threats
Last week it was announced that politicians are receiving more and more threats. Last year, 1125 reports of threats to MPs, ministers and state secretaries were received. There were almost twice as many as the year before, in 2021 there were 588 reports.

The increase was mainly due to a significant increase in the number of threats against one person, namely Geert Wilders. At least half of the reports were addressed to the PVV leader.

Most threats are made through social media. In such a case it is often complicated to find out who is behind the account.
