Sep Jansen (13) from Tilburg is ‘really looking forward’ to closing the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Nice on Sunday. Together with Jasmijn Torrico (14) he participates in their song ‘Holding On To You’, an upbeat dance number. This afternoon they are the last of the sixteen participating countries and the young duo finds that quite exciting, but there is also an advantage to it. “If we are last, people may remember our song best during voting,” says Sep.
If they win the song contest, it would be the first time since 2009 that the Netherlands has won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Then Brabant Ralf Mackenbach from Best won with his song ‘Click Clack’. Sep and Jasmijn are honest about their chances of winning this year: “1 out of 16. We just practiced well. But we’ll see what happens,” says Jasmijn.
They find it difficult to pick a favorite among other acts, because “we really like them all.” They think that host country France will do well. “I really like the song. It just has a really nice vibe,” says Sep.
They also received tips for their big performance from Luna, who participated for the Netherlands in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Armenia last year. “Just have fun, it’ll be over soon.”
