Telia has banned the use of the popular social media service Tiktok on its work devices. The ban affects a total of around 20,000 employees in seven countries, and will take effect from the end of May.
Telia justifies its decision with the security risks highlighted by the security authorities. It has been alleged that Tiktok may be leaking user data to the Chinese government.
– Telia’s networks are a key part of critical, national infrastructure, which is why, based on a careful evaluation, we decided to ban the use of the application on work devices, Telia’s director of corporate security Kalle Kaasalainen tells in the company’s announcement.
Kaasalainen states that the marketing channel located in Tiktok will be handled with special arrangements in the future.
Personal phones allowed
The use of the service is prohibited on the phones of officials of many different countries.
In Finland, it is not recommended to use the service on Government Council phones, but if necessary, the Tiktok application can be installed, for example, for communication tasks or checking the content.
Telia’s employees can still use the application on their personal phones.
Tiktok is an application owned by the Chinese bytedance. The service is especially popular among young people.
