TikTok: These are the summer hits in Germany and globally

It’s on every summer: a hit for the warm season has to be chosen. While Luca-Dante Spadafora, Niklas Dee and Octavian delivered the summer hit for the German charts with “Girl on the Horse”, the video platform TikTok had its own hits chosen. Now the winners have been announced.

Under the hashtag “SongOfTheSummer”, millions of users were able to vote for which songs are the most popular. TikTok has now ranked the summer hits of 2023 in Germany and around the world in two different top 10 lists.

In the summer hits, which German TikTok users apparently celebrated the most this year, Jain’s “Makeba” took first place. The song by the French artist was first released in 2015 and hardly made any waves outside of French-speaking countries. Their debut album ZANAKA at the time also received a mixed reception. In June 2023, however, the pop number celebrated a comeback and went viral on TikTok. Thanks to numerous dance clips on the social media platform, Jain became a world star overnight.

When it comes to music for worldwide video creations, Mae Stephens can look forward to the gold medal. The newcomer published her electro-pop ballad in winter, but this summer it heated up content creators on TikTok. Speaking of her viral hit, the Brit said: “I’m really honored that my song topped the global TikTok Songs of the Summer list! I’m speechless and never thought it would go viral! It was so nice to see how many creative ideas were developed for the song. I can’t thank everyone enough for supporting, streaming, sharing and giving the song a little boost!”
