TikTok HLN and HLN science expert Martijn Peters nominated for a Jamie | Instagram HLN

HLN’s TikTok account (@hln_be’) and Martijn Peters, science expert for HLN and VTM news, have been nominated for a Jamie Award. HLN TikTok can win the award for “best online video team for brands of 2023”, Martijn Peters for “best maker of explainers of 2023”. Last year both were nominated for a Jamie. The Flemish online video awards will be held on Awarded on February 2 during the Ostend Film Festival.

The account of HLN on TikTok now has more than 355,000 followers. Every day the team brings news tailored to young people. “We want to reach more young people with HLN and News City in general and TikTok is the ideal platform for this,” Jonas Lips, who started the account, said last year following the nomination of the account. “It is especially popular with teenagers and young adults. TikTok really continues to grow in popularity. HLN wants to be where people expect it, for the widest possible audience, including young people,” says Lips. Meanwhile, HLN on TikTok is an established name when it comes to news.

That is also the case for Martijn Peters. He is active on various social media platforms including TikTok. His personal account there has more than 112,000 followers. The videos that Martijn shares are about different topics, but science is always the common thread. “I get my inspiration from what’s happening in my own life, what I see on social media, the news in the science world, and from the videos in which people ‘tag’ me. And there is no question too crazy in my eyes,” Peters explains. It is already the third time that our science expert has been nominated for an online video award. He even won a Jamie Award for ‘best explainer 2021’. According to Peters, the recognition is nice, but even nicer are the reactions to his videos: “What is really gratifying are young people who say on TikTok that my videos have made them study science or that they now no longer find science boring but fun.”
