A remarkable end at FC Volendam – Genk. The Volendam team ended the game with ten men. Not because of a red card, but an injury for Dean James. There were no more substitutions left, after which the ten continued to play. The match was still won: 3-2.
The practice game against the Belgians was divided into three halves of thirty minutes. Daryl van Mieghem broke the ban on a pass from Derry John Murkin: 1-0. Striker Ibrahim El Kadiri scored for the second day in a row. He won the ball in Genk’s sixteen and then shot the ball through the inside of the post into the goal: 2-0.
Cyriel Dessers, who was still Feyenoord last season, created danger by shooting a ball hard against the bottom of the bar. Achraf Douiri was able to clear the ball in time. In the end, Murkin also turned out to be the end station for a goal. From a cross by Walid Ould-Chikh, the defender headed home: 3-0. Volendam seemed to be sitting on roses, but nothing could be further from the truth.
Bottom number
Carlos Cuesta scored the connecting goal behind Kayne van Oevelen: 3-1. After this, disaster struck for Dean James, he was injured and there were no substitutions left. It was not very successful for Genk, because in stoppage time András Németh headed in the 3-2.
