Tiger Woods has survived the first round of his highly publicized comeback in the Bahamas.
The golf superstar from the USA started his own tournament on the par-72 course at the Albany Golf Club with a round of 75. It was a start with light and shadow for the 47-year-old.
The tournament on the Caribbean island is the first competition for Woods after the injury-related withdrawal from the Masters in Augusta in April and the subsequent operation on his right foot.
“I’m a little worn out now,” Woods admitted after round one. The 15-time major winner started at 11:52 a.m. local time (5:52 p.m./CET) in a light pink shirt and black pants. His first tee shot landed safely on the fairway after almost 300 meters. His right ankle no longer seemed to be causing him any problems. The long-time number one in the world’s swing seemed round and controlled almost throughout the entire 18 holes. However, from the 15th hole onwards, Woods lost some ground and made too many misses towards the end.
In 2016 and 2017, after his numerous injuries, Woods had chosen his own event near Nassau as a gentle re-entry into the tough professional business. 20 top golfers from the PGA Tour will take part in Tiger Woods’ four-day invitational tournament in the holiday paradise.
