Tiger Woods calls return on Augusta golf course one of his greatest achievements | More Sports

Golfer Tiger Woods completed his return to the Masters with a round of 78 strokes. The five-time winner of the US major tournament finished in 301 strokes, 13 strokes above the track average, but called it one of the greatest achievements of his career.

According to the fifteen-time winner of a major, this was one of his best performances. “For not winning a tournament for sure, without a doubt,” he said.

Following a car accident in February 2021, Woods spent weeks in hospital and was unable to walk for months due to serious injuries, most notably to his right leg. Fourteen months later, he made his comeback on the golf courses of Augusta.

loud applause

His rounds of 78 strokes from Saturday and Sunday were his highest ever at the Augusta National. Nevertheless, he walked off the track to loud applause. “It was an unforgettable feeling. This tournament meant so much to me and my family. I keep saying it, but I’m really grateful.”

Woods also said that rehabilitation is far from complete. “The people around me know it, they’ve seen it. Some players who know me well have seen it and seen pictures of the things I’ve been through.”

The golf legend quickly said to “get back to work” in the gym to further strengthen his legs. “I have work ahead of me and I’m looking forward to it.”
