Tiësto cancels Super Bowl gig for family reasons

He would have been the first DJ to play during the game – but family comes first.

Tiësto was supposed to be the very first in-game DJ at the 58th on Sunday, February 11th. Super Bowl should hang up. However, the Dutchman has now canceled this special appearance because he has to fly home due to a “personal, family emergency”.

The Kansas City Chiefs will meet the San Francisco 49ers in a few days at Allegiant Stadium near Las Vegas. The most important game of this year’s NFL season will be played there – the Super Bowl. As every year, the match is not just about the teams’ sporting performance, but also about what happens around it. The musical supporting program, including the famous halftime show, will once again feature international stars in 2024. Among other things was also Tiësto intended for this purpose, who made his cancellation public a few days before the event.

“Family always comes first”

He should have the honor of being the first DJ to accompany the game with his tracks during the players’ warm-up phase and during breaks. He also wanted to stream his set live on his social media channels. However, nothing will come of this now, as the 55-year-old has a “personal, family emergency” and will fly home for it. In a post on “X” he writes: “Me and my team have been preparing something very special for months, but a personal family emergency forces me to come home on Sunday morning. It was a difficult decision to miss the game, but family always comes first. I thank the NFL for their collaboration and look forward to working with them to create something incredible in the future!”

More music acts planned

Even before the planned Super Bowl show, the DJ is actually scheduled to give a concert in New York on February 8th and 9th. It is not yet clear whether he will continue to do so. It is also not known whether he will be replaced by someone else at the NFL event or whether his role will be canceled in the evening. Even without the Dutchman, the match will offer some musical highlights, including Usher in the halftime show and Gwen Stefani as a pre-game act. You can read all other performances here.
