Ticketmaster stops advance ticket sales in France

The rush is really big: more than a million fans tried to get France tickets for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras” tour in the presale and thereby paralyzed the Ticketmaster website, after which the presale was canceled for the time being in France.

Presale codes didn’t do anything

Although this time Ticketmaster wanted to use presale codes to prevent exactly this scenario of page overload, that’s exactly what happened in the end: too many people wanted to buy tickets for Swift’s gigs in Lyon and Paris 2024 in France at the same time – initially in vain.

The portal originally launched the procedure in which those interested in buying register in advance and the winners drawn receive a code in order to prevent people from reselling the tickets at overpriced prices and too many from queuing in the virtual queue at the presale. Ticketmaster could not have foreseen that the fans would now have to worry about their potential tickets. The ticket debacle caused all sorts of complaints – including on social media.

Ticketmaster has since commented on the incident and stated that presale codes that have not yet been used remain valid. Furthermore, the pre-sales planned for July 12 for the two shows in France have been frozen and the procedure will remain true. A new pre-sale date will be communicated in a timely manner. Ticketmaster France cites problems with the third-party provider as the cause of the basic problem. But it doesn’t get any more specific than that.

France is not the first to have this problem, as something similar happened in the United States last November. Here, too, the Ticketmaster website crashed during advance sales and cost many fans their concert tickets. At the time, the ticket portal justified the incident by saying that the website had been visited by too many people and bots at the same time.
