Ticket chaos after the new Corona rules were announced

After the announcement of the new spectator limits in professional sports, FC Schalke 04 had major problems with the allocation of tickets.

Before the upcoming home game in the 2nd Bundesliga against Jahn Regensburg, there were technical problems with the online ticket platform, FC Schalke 04 announced on Thursday morning via Twitter.

A ticket allocation is currently not possible, it said. Criticism then rained down on the district club on social networks.

Only a few minutes earlier at 9:04 a.m. the tickets for the game were supposed to have been activated. On the website enquiries.schalke04.de fans can apply for up to two tickets – as soon as the technical problems have been overcome.

FC Schalke 04 can hope for 10,000 spectators

10,000 spectators are allowed for the duel with Regensburg in the Veltins Arena according to the latest decisions of the state governments. North Rhine-Westphalia has already implemented the new directive in its Corona Ordinance.

Previously, only 750 fans per game were allowed in the most populous federal state. Schalke had already distributed these tickets for the Regensburg game free of charge. They remain with the cardholders, as the Revierklub announced. The remaining tickets will be sold at a standard price of 19.04 euros.

Strict rules for FC Schalke 04 home games

Despite the increased number of spectators, strict rules still apply to the game. Only those who meet the 2G+ rules are allowed into the stadium, and there is also a general obligation to wear a mask on the walkways and on the pitch.

2G+ includes people who are fully vaccinated or have recovered and who can also present the negative result of a rapid test (no older than 24 hours) or a PCR test (no older than 48 hours).

People are exempt from the obligation to test who, in addition to the complete basic immunization

  • either have a 3rd booster vaccination
  • vaccinated recovered people, i.e. people who had a Covid-19 infection detected by a PCR test and have received at least one vaccination before or after
  • People who have received two vaccinations more than 14 but less than 90 days after the second vaccination (this also applies to Johnson&Johnson vaccinates who have not yet received a third vaccination) or
  • have recovered from infection in the last three months (confirmed PCR test more than 27 days but not older than 90 days).

Schalke recommends all spectators to be tested before the game, regardless of their vaccination status. In the event of symptoms, fans should “urgently” stay away from the game, it said in a statement.
