THW Kiel maintains theoretical title chance

For the time being, THW Kiel prevented table leaders SC Magdeburg from winning the Bundesliga championship early.

Coach Filip Jicha’s team beat bottom TuS N-Lübbecke 32:23 (13:7) in the catch-up game on Thursday, but Magdeburg could make everything clear against HBW Balingen-Weilstetten on June 2nd.

In second place (52:10 points), THW behind Magdeburg (58:4) only has a theoretical chance of winning the title, but thanks to the success it collected important points in the race for a place in the Champions League.

The Kielers, where star player Sander Sagosen was the best thrower (9 goals), also managed to take revenge for the first leg defeat (25:29) in October at TuS N-Lübbecke, for which direct relegation is almost certain is.

The SG Flensburg-Handewitt celebrated another success after the lost northern derby. Coach Maik Machulla’s team beat TVB Stuttgart by 28:26 (13:15).

Flensburg, in fourth place (48:14), is still close to Füchse Berlin (50:12), third in the table.
