On May 19th there will be a meeting in the home arena. A year ago, Kiel lost out against the same opponent in the quarter-finals. This time it could be different – the THW has at least laid the basis for reaching the tournament in Cologne (June 18th and 19th). Unlike SG Flensburg-Handewitt, who lost to FC Barcelona at home.
Strong start from Kiel
The game in the French capital started a quarter of an hour late. A PSG ultra had fallen from the stands and buried a person under it. Both were treated by paramedics.
Kiel didn’t lose concentration due to the waiting time. The newly crowned DHB Cup winner started extremely well in front of 3,000 spectators and quickly led 5:1 against PSG, who had won the eighth French championship in a row last weekend. Niklas Landin was a strong support straight away and chances were consistently taken up front.
After a good quarter of an hour, however, the star ensemble around Dutch playmaker Luc Steins got into the game better. It was made easier for them by some inaccuracies on the part of the people from Kiel. The result: In the 22nd minute, THW lost the lead, it was 12:12.
But the North Germans held against it. A bit too robust in the person of Hendrik Pekeler – he received his second time penalty a little later. Overall, however, the Jicha team was very present again and went into the dressing room with a 16:14 lead.

They started the second half just as well as they had started in the first half. A 3-0 run was immediately successful, Rune Dahmke made it 19:14 (34th). But again there was also the parallel that the lead was quickly lost. When the score was 21:21 (45th), Jicha took a break to sharpen his players’ senses again.
With success. His team kept their nerves in the heated final phase. Pekeler made it 29:28 (58th). A win was possible, but even with the draw, Kiel have everything under control. The most successful THW player was Sander Sagosen with six goals.
