THW celebrates victory in Hamm

The handball players of THW Kiel are back on the road to success. After three games in a row without a win in all competitions, the record champions in the Bundesliga won 37:24 (17:9) at newly promoted ASV Hamm-Westfalen.

With his seven goals, Patrick Wiencek ensured that the North Germans climbed back to second place, at least temporarily. The best throwers for the hosts, who are now bottom of the table, were the five-time goalscorers Savvas Savvas and Jan von Boenigk.

The THW ensured clear conditions in front of the 2650 spectators from the start. Kiel only needed two minutes for the first three goals. With the hosts, on the other hand, the uncertainty was palpable. Fabian Huesmann put the first ASV penalty well over the goal, Savvas failed with the second penalty throw at the strong Niklas Landin in the goal of the guests.

“We have to work on ourselves and our strengths,” said THW trainer Filip Jicha before the game on Sky. The game of his protégés was dominant, but not error-free, especially on the offensive. The lead at half-time could have been higher than eight goals.

After the change of sides, the hammer came into play better. Coach Michael Lerscht’s team was no longer able to prevent the first ten-goal lead for the guests (28:18/49.) and the deserved THW victory.
