Three vehicles collided with each other on the Nieuwendijk in Budel on Monday afternoon. A motorist drove from the center of Budel in the direction of Randweg Oost. According to a 112 correspondent, the driver thought that a walking woman wanted to cross the roadside. So she slammed on the brakes.
A van driving behind her collided with the back of her car. The bus tried to swerve but then collided with an oncoming vehicle. The driver was taken to hospital, and the drivers of the vans were also taken to the hospital for a check-up.
The damage to the three vehicles was extensive. The woman walking on the roadside is said to have been on her way to the asylum seekers’ center in Budel with a suitcase. According to local residents, she was not known in the area and it is not the first time that people have walked on the roadside, instead of on the nearby bicycle path. It would more often lead to dangerous situations.
The accident is under investigation and the road is closed to traffic.
