Three thousand kilometers in eight days: Drenthe students survive desert rally

The rally team of Drenthe College is second to last in the standings. Students Martin Schinkel and Lars Nijenhuis seem somewhat disappointed when they say so, but their teacher is especially proud. “The teams that did not reach the finish are not in the standings,” says Chris Lanting.

The coach is referring to the more than thirty other teams, which, in contrast to Drenthe College, stranded prematurely and were declassified by the student team from our province.

Student Schinkel shows the support car. An old fire truck filled with tools and since last week also with sand from Western Sahara. “Very important, because you keep your things here and you also keep an overview. You can check if you tinker on the ground and you have to find everything in the sand, then it becomes very difficult.”
