Three suspects of threats against Van Quickenborne extradited to our country

This is confirmed by the federal prosecutor’s office. One suspect was handed over on Monday.

Plans for kidnapping

The federal prosecutor’s office announced on September 24 that Van Quickenborne’s home in Kortrijk had been placed under increased security due to a possible threat. The exact nature of the threat was not communicated, but there are said to have been plans to kidnap the Minister of Justice. Weapons were found in an abandoned car.

Three suspects were arrested in The Hague and Leischendam on the night of September 23 to 24. A fourth was arrested a day later in The Hague. Three suspects opposed their surrender, but the International Legal Aid Chamber (IRK) of the Amsterdam court decided on 26 October that they could indeed be surrendered to Belgium.

Further arrest?

On Monday morning, the first of four suspects was handed over to our country. The other three were handed over on Thursday. They will appear before the Kortrijk investigating judge. He will decide on their possible arrest. The investigation itself remains in the hands of the federal prosecutor.
