Three storms in a row: busy times for insurers

It is already certain that insurance premiums will go up again soon. The storm damage comes on top of last summer’s flood bill, and prices in the construction industry to repair everything have never been higher.

“I have been a broker for 32 years. It is the second time in my career that we have experienced something like this. I assume that we will receive around 250 claims”, says Joost Missinne, insurance broker in Kortemark.

In the Netherlands, storm damage has already been measured for half a billion euros, but we don’t have any figures yet. But it is already clear that fire insurance premiums will become more expensive again. Last summer’s floods cost the Belgian insurance sector more than 2 billion euros.
