Three police officers injured in Eindhoven football riots, five people arrested

Three officers were slightly injured on Thursday evening in riots in the city center in Eindhoven, prior to the PSV match against FC Zurich. Supporters of the Swiss club threw patio chairs from various cafes and confronted the police.

The officers did not have to go to the hospital and were able to resume their work quickly, the police said. The Mobile Unit was already present as a preventive measure and intervened and restored peace. Four FC Zurich supporters were arrested for public disorder. A PSV supporter was arrested outside the stadium during the match for the same violation.

Earlier, the police spokesman spoke several times about a ‘pleasant evening’. PSV’s match, which was won 5-0, started at nine o’clock in the evening. FC Zurich supporters gathered around four o’clock in the afternoon on the Markt, where they went on a rampage. The unrest is said to have arisen after one of the supporters was arrested by the police.

Seats through the air
Video images quickly circulated on social media showing chairs flying through the air and tables being thrown at the riot police. The Heuvel covered shopping center closed, the riot police removed bicycles and the catering industry on the Market closed its doors. The riot police closed off the access roads to the Market and eventually locked in the hooligans.

The fans were escorted to the stadium by the police just before the game. However, the supporters did not want to go in and went home.

The supporters kept a lot of house on the Market.
