Three new Star Wars movies planned!

By Eileen Kramer

Attention Star Wars fans! The saga is far from over!

Twelve official “Star Wars” films have flickered across the world’s cinema screens since 1977, even 14 if you count the two “Ewoks” films from 1984 and 85. The epic universe ended with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Until now! Millions of fans hoped so, now it’s official: Rey Skywalker will found a new Jedi order. That was announced by Lucasfillm Studio President Kathleen Kennedy on Friday. And in a new trilogy.

Each of the three films will cover different eras of “Star Wars” history and (small bonus) each of the three films will have its own director – including a woman for the first time.

► According to the studio, the story of Rey will be continued in the first part, which will continue to be played by actress Daisy Ridley (30). The legendary Jedi order is to be revived. Oscar winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (44) is to direct the film.

The director says she has spent most of her life “meeting real heroes, overcoming oppressive regimes and fighting impossible obstacles. I think that’s the heart of Star Wars.” Obaid-Chinoy won her two Oscars for documentaries about violence against women.

► Another film should go into the hands of director James Mangold (59). He is supposed to deal with the origins of the Jedi order.

► The third film is directed by Dave Filonie (48), who has already produced several series based on “Star Wars”, including the third season of the high-flyer series “The Mandalorian”.

So the films are definitely in good director hands.

But if you have already cleared the cape and laser sword out of the closet, you still have to be patient: the first film should be in cinemas in 2025 at the earliest.

Until then, there is still enough time to watch all the “Star Wars” films again. In total, this takes around 28 hours for all 12 strips.
