Three municipalities in Drenthe are still busy looking for a location for emergency shelter asylum seekers

De Wolden, Midden-Drenthe and Noordenveld have not yet found a suitable location for emergency shelter for asylum seekers. The agreement was to realize this before October 1, so the three municipalities are behind schedule.

Every municipality in Drenthe is setting up an emergency shelter to relieve the pressure on the application center in Ter Apel. But that sometimes turns out to be more difficult than expected. For example in De Wolden, where more than ten locations have been viewed in recent weeks, but without success. “Every time at the last minute it bounces off again,” says a spokesperson.

The bounce is due to several reasons. “One party asked such an absurdly high amount, that is simply not possible,” the spokesperson continues. “In other situations we were close to making a scribble. Then in the end it doesn’t go through. We don’t know why that happened every time. It may be that people fear possible consequences and reactions from the neighborhood to housing. of asylum seekers.”

It is now starting to become a ‘thing’, according to the municipality. They would like to come up with a shelter as soon as possible. The municipality does not want to let it come to coercion. The search therefore continues. “The good news is that we have three locations in mind.” Since the negotiations are still ongoing, De Wolden does not want to elaborate further on this.

In Midden-Drenthe, the search is not over yet, says a press officer. “There is a location we have in mind, but we don’t know yet whether it will get to the point where we can use the place. We are busy with it, we can’t say more.”

The same goes for Noordenveld. There is still research underway to find the most suitable place. “A few locations are interesting. We need to investigate that further.”
