Three meters above the sky: plot and cast of the film now on Netflix

vDo you want a teen drama? There’s something new on Netflix (so to speak). AND Three meters above the sky, by Luca Lucini, based on the homonymous novel by Federico Moccia. A 2004 film that tells the story of Babi and Step, two boys who, despite coming from two different worlds, fall in love, with all that follows, between kisses, sighs and misunderstandings. Both the film and the novel on which it is based were very successful.

Three meters above the sky: the plot

We are in Rome. Babi (Katy Louise Saunders) is a good girl from good Rome: private school (with a sadistic teacher softened by blackmail), a round of parties, wealthy friends. Step (Riccardo Scamarcio) hangs out with a group of thugs who crash parties to destroy everything, have motorbike races and brawls.

The two fall in love, although initially she is hostile and he has the sole purpose of convincing her not to testify at the trial which would cause him trouble. Love changes both: Babi starts skipping school, goes out in the middle of the night to be with Step. He turns out to be more tender and full of fragility.

Riccardo Scamarcio and Benedetta Porcaroli: it is love between the two stars of Italian cinema

«You make me feel three meters above the sky», Babi confesses to Step. A sentence which will be followed by the end of the adventure. After a dramatic event, she Babi realizes she can’t go on living a life that doesn’t belong to her. But she will never forget Step, the first boy she made love with.

Blockbusters of the early 2000s, Three meters above the sky in 2007 had a sequel, I want you, always based on another homonymous novel by Federico Moccia. Laura Chiatti and Filippo Nigro acted with Riccardo Scamarcio and Katy Saunders. The Spanish remake was a great success Three meters above the sky in 2010 (and rotates from the sequel I hold ganas de ti). Finally, always from Three meters above the sky Netflix made the series Summertime, the story between Ale and Summer, two boys from two different worlds but who, like Step and Babi, share an inexplicable attraction and experience an unforgettable summer.

Babi (Saunders) and Step (Scamarcio) kiss on the Ponte Milvio, in front of the padlocks, symbol of love, which have now been removed.

Three meters above the sky: cast and review

The film did very well at the box office and had great merit: throw Riccardo Scamarcio in the world of cinema. He’s Step and he’s head and shoulders above the rest of the actors in the film, (with the exception of Claudio Bigagli And Galatea Ranzi, who play Babi’s father and mother). Babi is Katy Louise Saunders, a British actress who achieved maximum popularity thanks to this film. Ivan Bacchi is Paolo, Step’s “good boy” brother, Mauro Meconi is Pollo, his best friend.

Three meters above the sky deals with all adolescent themes (love, family, school) and evidently does so effectively, given the great success. As often happens in this type of film, it lines up a series of banalities, from the dj’s improbable voice-over to the memories that pass under the notes of Tiziano Ferro and Vibrazioni.

Some scenes are improbable, such as the initial party in which the crashers smash everything and the boys who suffer the raid seem to enjoy themselves like crazy, For someone it was a “guilty pleasure” something to watch without saying too much. And it can be a way to take a trip to the early 2000s, to discover (or remember) how we lived as teenagers without smartphones. And, apparently, no motorcycle helmets.
