“Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” is celebrating its 50th anniversary and will also be shown on the Christmas TV program in 2023.

This year the classic “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” is celebrating its 50th anniversary. This fairy-tale film has become a festive tradition and is a must-see on TV at Christmas time every year.

The Czech Republic/GDR co-production, an adaptation of the Brothers Grimm’s Cinderella fairy tale, tells the story of Cinderella. She is a brave and clever young woman who escapes her fate and ultimately finds happiness with the help of three magical hazelnuts. The film premiered in Czechoslovak cinemas on November 6, 1973. It started operating in the GDR around five months later. The Cinderella actress Libuše Šafránková, who died in 2021, and Pavel Trávníček, who plays the prince, immediately became stars back then. Today it is impossible to imagine Christmas television programs without this work, which does not require any special effects at all.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary, “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” will also be shown on television this year. Between December 3rd and January 16th a total of 16 times. The fairy tale can also be streamed on Netflix, Paramount+, Amazon Prime and Apple TV and in the ARD media library.
