Ghana’s interim national coach Otto Addo gets reinforcements ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.
As announced by the Ghanaian football association GFA, the former German U21 internationals Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer and Stephan Ambrosius (both Hamburger SV) and ex-junior international Patric Pfeiffer (SV Darmstadt 98) are eligible to play for the Ghana national team with immediate effect .
In addition to the three second division players, Spanish international Iñaki Williams (Athletic Bilbao) and England U21 international Tariq Lamptey (Brighton & Hove Albion) are also moving to the West African state’s football association. “Having these players available now means a lot to the Ghana Football Association and the Black Stars coaching staff,” said GFA President Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
According to the association, there had previously been an extensive exchange between the GFA, the players and their parents. “Coach Otto Addo and his support team will continue to keep an eye on them in order to evaluate them for future assignments, including the matches in September and the World Cup in Qatar,” said the association’s president.
Former Borussia Dortmund pro Addo has been Ghana’s national coach since February of this year until at least the World Cup from November 21 to December 18, having previously been an assistant coach. Under him, the Black Stars qualified for the tournament in the playoffs against Nigeria, where in Group H Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay are the opponents. The 47-year-old Addo is also a talent scout at BVB.
