Seven people have been killed in a plane crash in the Peruvian region of Ica. Among them would be three Dutchmen, report Peruvian media. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet confirmed this. The other victims are said to be two Chilean tourists and the two pilots.
The plane would have been on its way back from a flight over the famous Nazca Lines in Ica. Carved into the earth hundreds of years ago by indigenous communities, these lines depict geometric shapes and animals best admired from the air. The cause of the crash is still unclear.
The plane is said to have exploded and caught fire after the crash. Video footage shows that firefighters extinguish the remains of the device and that police officers have cordoned off the area. National authorities have expressed their condolences to the bereaved families and promised a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident.
