Three Dutch people killed by avalanche in Swiss Alps: “They were experienced climbers” | Abroad

Three Dutch people were killed in an avalanche in the Swiss Alps. This is reported by the Swiss police. The two men (32 and 40) and a woman (30) had been missing for several days. These are experienced climbers.

They were last heard from on Thursday evening. The three indicated that they would climb the Grosshorn on Friday. Saturday afternoon the alarm was sounded. The three Dutchmen were found on Sunday morning at the foot of the Jegi glacier. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague could not comment yet.

According to the Royal Dutch Climbing and Mountaineering Association (NKBV), these were “very experienced all-round climbers. “This is a great loss for our association,” says chairman Peter Valkenburg. They were not only good alpinists, but above all involved volunteers and nice people. We are going to miss them.”

Descent

According to the NKBV, the alpinists “most likely” climbed the Grosshorn (3,754 meters) via the north face. According to the organization, an avalanche probably occurred during the descent.

Due to a changeable winter sports season, there is a lot of difference between the different snow layers. As a result, avalanches may occur much faster.
