Three cushion legend Dick Jaspers appointed second honorary citizen ever in Rucphen

Dick Jaspers has been named an honorary citizen by the municipality of Rucphen. Mayor Marjolein van der Meer-Mohr presented this award to the billiard player from Sint-Willebrord on Tuesday evening. “Dick has managed to put the municipality of Rucphen on the sporting map in a particularly positive way.”

She continued: “He has made himself useful to the municipality of Rucphen in a very exceptional way.”

Honorary citizens are not widely spread in the municipality of Rucphen. After former mayor Wim du Chatinier, 56-year-old Dick Jaspers is only the second person to receive this award.

A lot of title
Jaspers has been a world champion in three cushion for many years. He became world champion five times and European champion five times. The billiard player also won the Dutch title in three cushion no less than twenty-one times.

This year he missed the mark: last weekend Jaspers lost the final at the Dutch Championship three cushion. In an exciting final round, Jean Paul de Bruijn was just too strong (4-3).
